Some Notes About Reiki

Reiki is a non invasive subtle method that helps the body recognize where energy is low or blocked to restore natural flow.

In the last 10 years Reiki has become more recognized as a treatment for maintaining and improving the overall health.   Reiki is being taught to nursing students and in massage schools and is gaining acceptance as a modality for decreasing anxiety and restoring balance.  Many US hospitals are now offering alternative therapies and Reiki is often on the list of those modalities.

Reiki for Animals

We are all energy beings based on quantum physics and animals as well as humans can benefit from the subtle healing power of a Reiki session.   Reiki is shared to help induce relaxation, reduce stress and pain, assist in natural healing, release emotional blocks and is described as benefiting the whole being – body, mind and spirit.

My first experience with Reiki was in 1997 while I was participating in my Tellington TTouch certification courses.   At that time I was a true type A and my animal was surely right there with me taking on my energy of high stress.     A young woman was assisting another lady in the class who was feeling tired and had a headache.    At the time I was probably a bit judgmental as I heard about the treatment she was receiving.   My education trained me to be skeptical yet also opened minded to possibilities for solution and thankfully my inner wisdom guided me to learn more about this non invasive healing modality.

Aromatherapy for Animals’ Health & Well Being

Another complementary therapy for an animal’s health and well being which is gaining recognition is aromatherapy.  Sometimes it is also known as essential oil therapy.

Generally speaking essential oils are described as highly concentrated volatile substances obtained from the roots, bark, leaves, flowers, needles, resins, fruit or seeds of aromatic plants.  Essential oils can be obtained by steam distillation, solvent extraction, carbon dioxide extraction or manual expression.
